Summer Reading 2021

While this year’s Summer Reading Program will look a little different this year, I hope we can all have fun celebrating reading and learning together! Our theme is Tails and Tales! We’re going to learn all about our fuzzy, feathery, fluffy, and furry friends, and we might even fine some scaly friends, too!

~ Cor Blevins, WCPL Children’s Programmer

Virtual Programming

Each week we will continue our virtual programming like usual: Storytimes on Tuesdays at 9am and First Chapter Book Club on Fridays at 4pm.

Take Home Craft Packets

We’ll have take-home craft packets available each week, and a virtual instruction video released each Wednesday at 4pm. Each take-home packet will feature a different animal-themed craft!

Drive-In Storytime

In addition to our virtual storytimes, we’ll also have Drive-In Storytime! There will be four different Drive-In Storytimes this summer: two at our Jonesborough Library and two at the Gray Branch Library.

Jonesborough: Friday June 11 at 10am and Monday July 19 at 10 am

Gray Branch: Monday June 7 at 10am and Friday July 23 at 10 am

If you and your family are out and about this summer, check out our new Storywalk at our Jonesborough Library! The story will change periodically, so be sure to come back and visit the walk often!

Reading Logs

Of course, the biggest part of summer reading is the actual reading! Participants can register for our summer reading challenge by going to OR by picking up a reading log from our Jonesborough or Gray location beginning May 24th! Logging for summer reading will officially begin on June 7th and end on July 24th!

Earn prizes like brag tags, gift certificates, and the opportunity to participate in our finale event! Details will be posted here and on our Facebook page shortly!

Reading Buddy Program

Want to read, but don’t have anyone to read to? That’s okay! Adopt one of our Reading Buddies from the library! We have all sorts of (stuffed) pets to take home, from birds to fish to puppies to kittens! Send pictures of you reading to your new friend for extra chances to win prizes!
