About the O.W.L. Catalog
O.W.L. is the Organization of Watauga Libraries, a network of public libraries that serves northeast Tennessee area of Carter, Greene, Johnson, Sullivan, Unicoi and Washington counties. O.W.L. libraries have a common catalog system, and patrons can use the system to find books at other member libraries. When a patron requests a book from another library, a courier brings it to the patron’s home library when it becomes available.
Searching the Catalog
The Search Bar is located near the top of the webpage just under the “Organization of Watagua Libraries” logo heading.
Use the first drop-down box to search in your library or select “Everything” to search all libraries (this is the default). You can limit a search by author, title, or subject, or you can search “All Fields” using the second drop-down box. After you have entered a search, you can further limit that search using “Limit Search Results”. Once you have found an item, click on the title to see more information. At the bottom of the page, you will see the number of available copies, their locations in the library, due dates for checked out items, and rich content such as reviews, a table of contents, or a summary. You can now view R.E.A.D.S. e-books and audiobooks in the catalog.
Accessing Your Account
You can find where to log in and access your account at the very top right of the webpage.
Log into your library account using your library card number and your last name (PIN). Once you have logged in, you can view your Holds and view or renew your checkouts. An exclamation point means that you have an alert on your account. You may also change your PIN for your security.
Placing a Hold
When you find an item in the catalog that you want to place on Hold, click on the “Place Hold” button to the right of the item description. You will need to log into your account to place a Hold. You can cancel Holds and suspend Holds in your account.
Please note that a pop-up box will appear that allows you to chose a Library to pick up the item at. You can only pick up items at the Library whose card you placed the Hold on. For example, if you have logged into your Washington County Public Library account (card number beginning with 26843) and placed a Hold, you CANNOT pick up the item at the Bristol Public Library! If you are placing a Hold for an item with us, you must choose only Jonesborough or Gray Branch as your pick-up library.
You can use the catalog to create and save lists of items. Once you have found an item’s record, click on “Add to My Lists” in the “Select an Action” drop-down. This stores the item to a temporary list. To save a temporary list, click “My Lists” at the top right of the screen and select Save from the Select an Action menu. You will have to give the list a new name, which you can find later by logging into your account and looking at the left column under My Lists.
By default, the catalog does not save your checkout history.
If you wish to be able to view your previous checkouts, you must first go to “My Account” at the top right of the screen. Under the “Personal Information” tab, select “Preferences”. There are two check-box options for you to chose how you would like your checkout history to be saved.
You can then find your check history under the “Checkouts” tab in your account and select “Checkout History”.
